I’ve definitely made a lot of mistakes — the drivers license exchange is one of them and I’m dealing with the paperwork now in hopes I can rectify my mistake before it gets even more difficult. But honestly, I’m terrified of driving in Portugal so….

Haha! Same. Driving in Spain is intimidating. I think my husband is going to take it on first. Then, maybe me if I can sum up the courage. 😂

I agree, the number of moving pieces when relocating abroad with a family mean that things will inevitably go wrong. Ironically, while we move to Spain for a lighter, more carefree existence, we create a mountain of admin! Everyone's favourite part of life ;p

It is a delicious irony, isn't it? 😂

Truly! It's amazing how what we're drawn to requires embracing the opposite quality. Free-spirited introverts who move to Spain have to embrace extroversion and bureaucracy!

I’m still working on the extroversion. 😉

Yes, me too! I think the Spanish are the biggest extroverts in the world, but in a matter-of-fact way. They make spending all day out with a group of friends look very chill!

Perfect explanations. Thank goodness I don't drive, but my husband did when we first moved here. We decided that an auto wasn't necessary after a few months. So he kept his IDL and just renewed it over the years.

I use Slynumber. I am not familiar with Tello. Sly has voicemail and will automatically ring on my Spanish number if I don't answer right away. It is a standard U.S. number, similar to the ones you’d get from AT&T, T-Mobile, or Verizon.

Thank you!

I don't know if we want to own a car, per se, but we do think one of us probably needs a license. Will is working on his now and ready to take the written test. Mainly, we want to be able to do road trips with the kids to places the trains may not go.

I only heard about Tello in recent years. I think they are fairly new on the scene, but they've become popular with people who live abroad because of the WiFi calling feature, I think, and the low cost.

I will check Tello out. As far as the license, my husband kept his US license and used the IDL. We kept a US mailing address and US credit cards, etc. Our situation is different, as my husband was already retired when we moved here.
