Lovely! I love the idea of not over planning. Serendipity is part of the joy of a getaway like this. Bookmarking this for when I can eventually visit Girona.

I've had Google Maps send me the wrong way on roads in older parts of Portuguese cities or send try to send me on pedestrian-only streets. I've started using Waze when I'm driving in a new city, especially the older or historic parts, and using Google Maps for navigating between cities.

I didn't even think about Waze! That would've been smart. Next time!

I love planning out what we'll see and do, but sometimes, I overdo it, and this was a fantastic break from that. We still got to see and do so much, some of which we might have missed otherwise.

I spent a week in Girona in late Feb/early March and thoroughly enjoyed it. I also went to Cadaqués and took a day trip to Perpignan. I had been caregiving for a year and a half and just enjoyed the museums, walking around the city, working in cafes, going to flea markets, and eating pastries. My apartment overlooked the Roman walls and it was a great trip. I had been studying Catalan and wanted to stay in a city where Catalan is spoken.

And I also got thoroughly lost when I arrived.

It’s such a good city for just wandering and finding interesting things to stop and do. Those streets in the center are like mazes though. 😅

Ah, Girona! Thank you for taking me there when I can’t be. It’s one of the cities where we’ve left our hearts.

It's such a pretty town and deserves way more attention than it gets!

Really enjoyed reading about your trip to Girona, to the point it felt like I was there! It’s one of my favorite cities to visit, and I hope to go now that I finally finished Game of Thrones (I was very late to that party 😅). Your photos were stunning as well.

I particularly enjoyed your writing about your encounters with the Catalan language. Most tend to gloss over that detail entirely, so the language nerd in me was quite excited to read that bit. Since you live in Valencia, I’d be curious to know more with your interactions with Valencian (I am completely aware that it is a landmine of a subject, especially now, so I’d understand if you’d rather not get into it).

Thank you! That's high praise. 😁 It was a cool city, and the old town was so much fun to see in person.

The language topic is super interesting to me, too, but yes, it is a bit of a landmine. I feel like I'd need to do a deep dive into it to give it the attention it deserves.
