The Valencia rental market is tight, especially for foreigners. Here's what we learned navigating it with a dog, no work contract, and a hard deadline.
Congrats! My family is in the middle of a very similar search and it looks like we found one not far from where you guys landed (we'll be in Pla del Remei). We're also bringing a dog and I'm curious about what that experience is like in the city center -- perhaps a topic for a future article. :) Good luck on the move.
Congratulation, Jen!! This was a super interesting and informative article, thank you for sharing your experience! I think your move to Rusafa will be a game changer. I stayed there during my reccy trip and it was my favourite part of my trip. Rusafa has such a vibe. When my brother and sister-in-law came to visit while I was there, we went out exclusively in Rusafa and had an absolute blast!
Thank you! Hopefully, it helps you for your move. We’ve been in Benimaclet since we got here, and it’s very quiet. We love it (very green and lush), but we’re ready for a bit more going on and a happening social scene.
Congratulations, and thank you for the summary! Hadn’t heard of Finaer before, though fortunately we’ve gotten away without it so far. One note - you don’t really need to change the address on your TIE. We moved to a new neighborhood after two years in Madrid, and immediately did the empadronamiento at the new address. Then we just made the address change on our TIEs at our next NLV renewal a year later.
Thanks for the kind words Jen and it’s great that we were able to help. Everything you say here about the current rental market is so true. It’s a nightmare to navigate doing it alone and there are a lot of scams to be aware of. Even after so many years doing this we are surprised at times by the lunacy of the way things work and oftentimes the naked greed of owners
It’s a lot different than the U.S. market for sure! But we’ve had a good experience with Valencia Property every time. You guys are genuinely worth every dime. 😊 The attention to detail and hustle is much appreciated.
Things are happening! Very exciting! And I love Ruzafa--so many good restaurants and coffee. 🖤☕ I'm about a 30-minute metro ride from the city, but I LOVE my little pueblo, and it's close to the boys' American school. Anyway, good luck with the move!
Thank you! We're excited. 😁 Yes, it does put us farther from our kids' school out in the pueblos, but thankfully, the bus route isn't any longer—just deeper into the city.

Thank you! Good luck with yours as well.
Good idea! 😅 Our dog is older, so it’ll be interesting for sure to see how he adapts.

Can't wait to see how you like Rusafa!

Thank you! Good to know! That would save me one more task. 🙃

Ah I was gonna ask about schools. Where are they going if you don't mind me asking?
I'll send you a reply privately!
Oh yes was gonna suggest that x
